Using the classics for dummy copy

Moby Dick as dummy copy

Or Alice in Wonderland or The War of the Worlds or others. A good substitute for the usual Lorem Ipsum although the interface is a bit clunky.

Of course if you need it more gangsta, there is always lorizzle.nl.

Andy Warhol on Coca-Cola

All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good

What’s great about this country is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca-Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coke, Liz Taylor drinks Coke, and just think, you can drink Coke, too. A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it.
Andy Warhol

The same goes for the internet. Essentially another of way saying that <a href=“http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Internet,_nobody_knows_you” onclick=“javascript:_gaq.push([’_trackEvent’,‘outbound-article’,‘http://en.wikipedia.org’]);“re_a_dog”>on the internet nobody knows you’re a dog.

The future of books according to IDEO

The future of books according to IDEO

Nelson, Coupland and Alice are three concepts by IDEO, each describing a different perspective on the future of books. Interesting idea’s that go beyond providing adding slick animations (as the trend seems so far).

While the first two work well for non-fiction works, I wonder if the Alice concept for fiction won’t actually remove you from the story instead of drawing you in.

Google Analytics in-page

Visualizing user behavior with Google Analytics

Google Analytics has a nice new feature that shows user activity in an overlay on the site. Not a replacement for more specific research tools but a quick (and cheap) insight into user behavior. The linked video gives a nice overview of the features.
